Indi Hartwell’s ‘injury’ serves many purposes for WarGames

WWE.com

Heading into the Nov. 25 edition of NXT, it looked like the heel side for the Dec. 6 TakeOver’s women’s WarGames match would be Candice LeRae & her new protégé Indi Hartwell teaming with Dakota Kai & her heater Raquel González.

But Triple H & company flipped the script on us a bit with Toni Storm’s turn. The move gives LeRae’s team more star power and experience, things they’ll need if Shotzi Blackheart’s squad ends up being rounded out with current Women’s champion Io Shirai and former champs Ember Moon & Rhea Ripley. It also gives the villains one more advantage, with Indi available to slip them weapons and whatnot once the cage is locked.

Matt Camp’s latest NXT Injury Report reminds us that one more thing was accomplished by writing Hartwell out of the match. It reminds us that, at least on the black-and-gold brand, Moon’s Eclipse finisher is dangerous.

That was a theme of Ember’s 2017 pursuit of then-Women’s champ Asuka. Peyton Royce & Billie Kay even had a campaign going in an attempt to get General Manager William Regal to ban the move. The Eclipse wasn’t presented as being quite as devastating on the main roster, and Moon spent much of the past year sidelined with injuries of her own. Having her finisher be the reason Indi is in a neck brace makes it even more meaningful when she hits it on someone in WarGames.

Here’s the video that does the reminding, and a list of what it covers:

  • Kyle O’Reilly: Bruises and soreness; cleared as symptoms allow
  • Pete Dunne: Bruises, soreness and lower back pain; cleared as symptoms allow
  • Indi Hartwell: Strained neck muscles; not medically cleared (day-to-day)
  • Timothy Thatcher: Possible broken nose; referred to plastic surgeon for further diagnosis
