We better at least get a crazy wrestling wedding out of this

WWE.com

WWE SmackDown returns tonight (Nov. 20) from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. This is the go home show for the Survivor Series pay-per-view (PPV) this Sunday.

The Headliner

There’s romance in the air on Friday nights.

Murphy and Aalyah Mysterio have been an item for a good month now. Last week, after Buddy (maybe?) helped Rey Mysterio defeat Seth Rollins, the Mysterio clan appeared to finally accept Aalyah’s amore.

Murphy will have to face an irate Seth Rollins tonight as a result of these actions. This could be Rollins swan song in this angle for a little while. Given his fiancé Becky Lynch is due with their child in December, this would be a logical way finish up this program so he can go on paternity leave after Sunday’s men’s Survivor Series match.

With Seth Rollins presumably out of the way tonight, it’s time for WWE to take the next logical step in an on-air wrestling romance. That’s a wrestling wedding!

There’s no doubt if you stop and think about it, this is all a bit creepy given Aalyah is 19 and Murphy is 32. (Who knows? Maybe in kayfabe he’s 26 or something.) So she’s rather young and he just got out of a cult. But we’re here now so we may as well take that very important next step.

In general, wrestling weddings absolutely rule. They’re outrageously dumb and they almost always end in unadulterated chaos. The last in-ring wedding we saw in WWE was between Lana and Bobby Lashley. It was interrupted multiple times, including by Liv Morgan who had an affair with Lana and the ex-Rusev, who jumped out of a cake. (The last in-ring wrestling in general was in Impact, where the groom got shot.)

If we’re going to go forward with this awkward romance between Murphy and Aalyah, then don’t deny me my schadenfreude from a train wreck of a wrestling wedding.

The Title Scene

Roman Reigns dismissed Drew McIntyre last week, telling him if he wanted to sit at the table with him, win the title from Randy Orton. Well Drew did just that on Monday. Now SmackDown’s Universal champion will have to face the new WWE champion on Sunday. That will be a WrestleMania caliber match and hell, maybe it still will be a WrestleMania match.

Sasha Banks can’t focus completely on her pending match with Asuka at the PPV because Carmella keeps attacking the SmackDown Women’s champion from behind. The former Queen of Staten Island (I’m guessing that moniker is gone with her gimmick tweak) will likely be lying in wait for another chance to strike tonight.

Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn’s program with United States Champion Bobby Lashley has mainly been back and forth on Twitter.

With the New Day successfully retaining their Raw tag team belts against the Hurt Business on Monday, their match against the SmackDown Tag Team Champion Street Profits is in tact for Sunday. That is good because this is the best option for the Survivor Series tag match.

This being the last show before Survivor Series, maybe Raw will be present in some way. That will be the only reason we’d see the Women’s tag team champions given Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler are the captains of the women’s team.

Other things to keep an eye on

– The women’s Survivor Series team still needs two members to join the Riott Squad and Bianca Belair. It’s possible that Rhea Ripley may see a quick call up to join the ranks after tying up her NXT business on Wednesday. The other will likely be decided by a triple threat that Natalya will be a part of but not win.

– The men still need one member to complete the team of Seth Rollins, King Corbin, Jey Uso, and Kevin Owens. I’m hoping it’s Big E. I’m worried it’s more likely to be Lars Sullivan.

– Hopefully we check on the Alpha Academy and see how Otis’ work with Chad Gable is going.
