New Year, New Champion?

All Elite Wrestling comes our way from Jacksonville, Florida. Last week, the All Elite locker room celebrated the life and career of Mr. Brodie Lee.

This Week’s Headliner:

The AEW Champion Kenny Omega is defending his World title tonight against Rey Fenix. Although the two have a history together in both AEW and AAA, this match was somewhat hastily thrown together by full-time wrestler and part time booker PAC.

Needless to say, Omega, whose nips may still be hard from last night, is less than thrilled about this match. I mean, he just won the title, and now he has to defend it. Criminal. In fact, he’s so mad that he might be unable to hold back his fury. “I might not just hurt you. I might put you out for good.”

But you know what they say – never underestimate your opponent. Rey Fenix is no slouch in the ring, and although it is unlikely that the luchador will dethrone The Cleaner, it’s going to be a hell of a fight.

Not to mention that tonight Jon Moxley returns for the first time since Kenny Omega cheated him out of his title. I’m sure he has some violent feelings about that.

The Title Scene:

Abadon has been stalking the AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida for weeks. Shida has done her best to put on a brave face and not let her demonic mind games get to her, but you can tell she’s more than a little on edge. She hasn’t let it stop her from protecting those less powerful on the roster – she is queen babyface after all – but she’s more than a little freaked. I mean, Abadon BIT, her zombie style! Will Shida be able to put aside her fear and defeat the hellish Abadon once and for all, or will her fear get the better of her?

TNT Championship will soon be on the line, but in case you didn’t already get those good good underdog vibes from this feud tonight the current champion Darby Allin will weigh in against his opponent Brian Cage. I’m sure there will be a lot of jokes at Darby’s expense from Team Taz, but they better watch out because his dad Sting is always lurking in the shadows, ready for a fight.

The AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks will team up with SCU to take on consistent pain in their butts TH2 and The Acclaimed in an eight-man tag team match.

TH2 has been messing things up for The Bucks for months, and SCU has gotten caught in the crossfire a couple of times. Meanwhile, The Acclaimed seem to think they have some sort of, well, claim on the tag titles despite their loss two weeks ago. They even made a rap video calling out The Young Bucks. I assume this is what Snoop Dogg is doing on Dynamite. He’s come to convince The Acclaimed to stop rapping.

Please Snoop. Save us.

Other Things to Keep an Eye On:

-Sure, the Inner Circle has agreed to work together for their greater good, but sometimes you just need to beat up your brother to work out your feelings. Jake Hager won’t be able to move forward with this new Inner Circle until he can battle it out with Wardlow. Time to take all that staring and do something violent with it! Then maybe, maybe the Inner Circle will finally all be on the same page.

-The Dark Order won a clean sweep for their fallen leader Brodie Lee last week. Perhaps tonight, they can capitalize on that momentum and add some new blood to their ranks. Ahem, paging one millennial cowboy…

-Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker have been sneak attacking each other for weeks. No reason to assume they’ll stop just because it’s a new year.

-Cody vs. Matt Sydal. Sure. Why not.

-Shawn Spears and his feelings.

-Chris Jericho on commentary because god knows we can’t have a single episode of Dynamite without le champion.

Tune into AEW on TNT at 8 p.m. EST to see how this all plays out!
