AEW Dark recap: Ivelisse & Diamante need stiffer competition

AEW Dark

Episode 61 of AEW Dark featured The Acclaimed and Top Flight as tag teams of the future, Ivelisse & Diamante wrecking shop, and Jungle Boy doing a wood check.

Here’s the Dark lineup with ratings (watch, solid, okay, pass) on which matches are worth your time toward Dynamite:

  • TNT vs Chaos Project (okay)
  • The Acclaimed vs Louis Valle & Justin Blax (okay)
  • Top Flight vs Baron Black & Frankie Thomas (okay)
  • The Hybrid 2 vs Adam Priest & Shawn Dean (okay)
  • Lucha Bros vs. Ashton Starr & David Ali (okay)
  • Dani Jordyn vs Leva Bates (okay)
  • 5 vs Fuego Del Sol (okay)
  • Dreamgirl Ellie & Jennacide vs Ivelisse & Diamante (okay)
  • Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela vs Jurassic Express (okay)

This was a standard episode of Dark. The main event was the most competitive with some of the cooler moves in the show. Lucha Bros and Ivelisse & Diamante brought the intensity. The Acclaimed and Top Flight are two young teams to get acquainted with.

Watch the show here.

Excalibur teamed with Taz to call the action. Ricky Starks and Frankie Kazarian stopped by to join commentary. Justin Roberts was the ring announcer.

Chaos Project defeated TNT. Terrell & Terrence Hughes were the newcomers. Luther blasted TNT to set up Chaos Project’s elevated flying double knee teamwork finisher.

The Acclaimed defeated Louie Valle & Justin Blax. Max Caster spit some lines to diss his opponents. The Acclaimed dominated and won with a teamwork cutter.

Top Flight defeated Baron Black & Frankie Thomas. Top Flight was in control more often than not. They executed a double pin on Thomas after a combo dropkick into powerbomb off the turnbuckles. Top Flight picked up their first win in AEW.

“Pretty” Peter Avalon’s private dinner in the elevator was interrupted by a hotel guest. His dining mate slapped PPA across the face.

The Hybrid 2 defeated Adam Priest & Shawn Dean. Jack Evans hit a 450 splash off the apron onto the floor. Meanwhile, Angelico trapped Dean with a Navarro Death Roll leg lock for a submission victory.

Lucha Bros defeated Ashton Starr & David Ali. Fenix helped Pentagon for a teamwork piledriver to win.

Leva Bates defeated Dani Jordyn. Bates rolled through from a cazadora position to wrap up Jordyn for the three count.

5 vs Fuego del Sol. 5 closed it out with a flurry. A kick to the knee, kick to the head, clothesline, then wingsnapper earned victory.

Ivelisse & Diamante defeated Dreamgirl Ellie & Jennacide. Ivelisse and Diamante were on another level of aggression. Diamante stifled the rally with a huge uppercut to a leaping Ellie then left the ring for a suicide dive onto Jennacide. Ivelisse raged with a scorpion submission on Ellie. Diamante had to restrain Ivelisse to release the hold.

Jurassic Express defeated Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus represented Jurassic Express, while Marko Stunt offered support ringside. Maybe I saw this silly moment wrong, but it looked like Kiss shook his booty, then Jungle Boy opened his own trunks to peak down. When Jungle Boy saw he was not aroused, he shrugged. That was the comical vibe of this matchup.

The action picked up when Kiss hit a moonsault to Luchasaurus on the floor. Jungle Boy crushed Janela with a Canadian Destroyer on the floor. Back in the ring, Luchasaurus goozled Kiss for a chokeslam. Janela ate a variety of kicks then was flipped into a teamwork powerbomb for Jurassic Express success.

My takeaway from this episode of Dark is that Ivelisse and Diamante need stiffer competition. They have been steamrolling opponents and looking impressive in victory. Their aggression and fire makes me fan. That duo needs something to do, even if it is a short little feud contained on Dark. The team of Ivelisse and Diamante are too entertaining to be floating with no direction.

On the enhancement side, Jennacide caught my eye. She has an interesting look and showed good power. I’d like to see her in another match on Dark to get a better flavor of her abilities.
