Taker & Kane both think someone else should have ended The Streak

WWE Network’s Brothers of Destruction documentary, which features Mark “Undertaker” Calaway and Glenn “Kane” Jacobs sitting down for a shoot conversation about the intersections of their legendary careers, is a good way for wrestling fans to spend 45 minutes. The two men are icons of the business, and their horror movie-infused rivalry/alliance is one of the most pro wrestling epics we’re likely to ever see.

We’ve heard most of these stories before, many of them in other programs WWE is streaming on all their outlets this month as part of their “30 Days of the Dead Man” celebration of Taker’s anniversary. But it’s still cool to hear two great wrestling minds talk through some huge moments in history.

One such moment occurred when Kane & Undertaker weren’t linked in kayfabe – the end of The Phenom’s WrestleMania win streak. The discussion that happens when Jacobs brings up his friend’s shocking loss to Brock Lesnar in 2014 mirrors the ones a lot of wrestling fans have had over the years…

Kane: My reaction, when I was watching that, I thought the finish got messed up. I was like, ‘They’re going to restart the match or something because something got screwed up.’ And – they didn’t. I walked out of the room. I was so – I was literally so mad about that. Because, you know, it’s just – and I know that the streak wasn’t something that anyone had ever planned and it was just something that had kind of organically evolved, but it had become a part of WrestleMania lore at that point…

Taker: I got to the arena that day and I was going over. I mean, we had gone back and forth and when I’d showed up, I was going over. And through the course of the day, Vince’d come to me and said he had changed his mind. Man, I was like, ‘Okay, well,’ I said, ‘I don’t think Brock needs it, but you know, at the end of the day, it’s your show, and it’s your call. And if you’re sure about it, then that’s what we’ll do.’ And that’s part of the business. That’s what we do.

I thought there would be someone like Roman [Reigns]. Roman – I think Roman would have been fine.

Kane: Yeah, I just feel that it would have made Roman, you know, it would have put even more luster on that.

The pair would further reveal how simpatico they are with wrestling fans when they talked Calaway’s disappointment in his eventual match with Reigns at WrestleMania 33, and their mutual disappointment in their Crown Jewel tag match against D-X in 2018.
