It’s going to be another rough night for Jey Uso
WWE SmackDown returns tonight (Dec. 4) from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. They are building towards the TLC pay-per-view (PPV) on Dec. 20.
The Headliner
Watching Roman Reigns can be uncomfortable.
This is all in a good way, of course. This newest version of Roman Reigns is very intimidating. He’s manipulative and controlling. Even his Special Counsel Paul Heyman is walking on eggshells around him. He’s a scary dude.
Jey Uso bears the brunt of it.
Roman is extra hard on Jey Uso, and while he may claim it’s for the greater good of the family, the real reason is because Jey dared to defy him. Jey tried to take the WWE title from him, and in essence, tried to take his place at the head of the table. But due to some manipulation from the Tribal Chief, he failed.
He has fallen into line with Roman, but it’s clear he’s still being punished for his initial insubordination. And every week, he tries to do what he thinks Roman wants him to, and every week, he’s wrong. He’s like a child trying to do right by an overly strict father who he can never please.
Last week, Roman instructed Uso to make people fear him, this including Kevin Owens, who dared to call out the Big Dog for treating SmackDown like his own personal playground. Unfortunately, Jey Uso failed. He wasn’t able to keep KO down with a series of chair shots and Owens stood tall, calling Reigns out.
Kevin is likely in for a world of hurt, invoking Roman’s family. But it’s Jey I worry about more. Because he no longer has any recourse. He has to make Reigns happy or he and his family are out of the clan. Last week, he screwed up big time. Tonight, he’s going to be punished.
This has been an excellent story told between the cousins which shows no signs of faltering. It’ll be uncomfortable between Roman and Jey tonight, but it’ll continue to be one of the most interesting things in wrestling.
The Title Scene:
Sasha Banks finally got her hands on Carmella last week. Carm will likely get her match for the SmackDown Women’s championship soon. TLC seems like a likely option.
Big E gave Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn a painful, 10 second handshake after the champ won an earlier match with another count out. It’s good to see E back on TV and likely in a title program. This time, Big E is in a much better position for a strong IC title run than he was when he won it the first time.
Bobby Roode & Dolph Ziggler defeated the Street Profits in non-title action last week so you know what that means! SmackDown tag title match coming up!
I’m still not expecting the Women’s tag team champions to show up on SmackDown any time soon. Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler will probably lose the gold to Lana & Asuka first.
Other things to keep an eye on:
– Murphy picked up a pretty cheap win over King Corbin last week, with the entire Mysterio family at ringside lending a hand. They’re going to rematch this week, but this time Corbin will be ready. The man has a history of running with lackeys so it shouldn’t be too hard to drum up some hired help.
– Otis’ year start great, but like everyone, 2020 caught up with him. Most recently, he was viciously attacked by Jey Uso last week. Will this get us a more serious side of Otis?
– More Billie Kay please!
