The Dream of The Boss vs. The Whim of the Hot Chick
WWE SmackDown is live tonight (Dec. 11, 2020) with the first show from the relocated ThunderDome inside Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. They are building towards the TLC pay-per-view (PPV) on Dec. 20.
The Headliner:
Carmella has had it out for the SmackDown Women’s champion, Sasha Banks, since her return to TV. They aren’t even allowed to be in the same room together for fear that they will come to blows! After weeks of sneak attacks and brutal beatings, the two sat down (in different rooms) and agreed to work out their differences in the ring at TLC. (And by “work out their differences,” I mean kick each other in the face for the right to be called champion.) It was some of Carmella’s best promo work ever, throwing the fact that she basically just wandered in off the street and is still as good as Sasha Banks who dreamed of being a wrestler all her life right in the Boss’s face. But those are big words, and tonight Carmella and Sasha will be forced into the same ring for their TLC contract signing.
There is no way this one ends peacefully.
The Title Scene:
The Universal Champion has other problems than dealing with the rumors of a dreaded Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns match on the horizon. The other problems being the unlikely hero of the locker room, Kevin Owens, and the constant “why does he never learn” thorn in his side, Jey Uso. KO & The Big Dog are going to war in a TLC match in two weeks, but first, he has to deal with his cousin and all his meddling instincts. Personally, I’ll be watching this segment from behind my blanket because Roman Reigns is scary and mean.*
*Yes, in a good way.
Last week, six former Intercontinental Champions, including Sami Zayn (current champion) and Big E, battled in a six-man tag in honor of Pat Patterson. It was a fun, if inconsequential match, with the babyface team coming out on top. Tonight Big E – complete with new music and old chalk – will continue on his quest to recapture singles stardom, starting with the IC title and Sami Zayn. Hopefully, Zayn can walk away from this one without a broken hand, and E can walk away with a title shot!
Two weeks ago, Bobby Roode & Dolph Ziggler defeated the SmackDown tag champions in a non-title match. Tonight, Montez Ford and Dolph Ziggler battle it out in one-on-one action. If Ziggler wins, this could lead to a title shot on TLC. Well, the TLC pre-show most likely. Eh, there’s not much going on with this one. It’s classic WWE writing. “If we don’t know what to do, we just add Dolph Ziggler to the match and let him figure it out.”
Women’s tag team champions are too busy on Raw trying to figure out how Lana keeps outwitting them. Seriously. At the rate things are going, we’re absolutely going to close out 2020 with Lana as a women’s tag team champion.
Other Things to Keep an Eye On:
-Despite not having the championship or leading her team to victory at Survivor Series and tapping clean to Nattie last week, Bayley is still walking around like she owns the place. Her unaccounted for swagger has caught the eye and ire of the queen of swagger, Bianca Belair. The EST was on commentary last week “minding her own business,” but it’s clear that we’re headed toward a Role Model vs. EST feud. Defeating Bayley is just the stepping stone Bianca needs on her continued and inevitable rise to the championship.
-King Corbin has two new court jesters that look suspiciously like two sons that should have stayed forgotten. They got involved in the Corbin/Murphy/Mysterio cluster*#(& last week, so naturally, we’ll probably do all that again this week. Maybe we’ll learn more about Corbin’s new pals. Regardless, we’ll definitely be getting more awkward kissing from the unlikely and uncomfortable paring of Aliyah and Murphy! So fun.
-Despite losing her tag partner for NO reason and not having the opportunity to wrestle, Billie Kay – loveable, quirky, professional talker – has stolen our hearts yet again in her quest to disseminate her resume to the SmackDown crew. She wasn’t on SmackDown last week, but she did have an interesting confrontation with The Riott Squad on Talking Smack. Will we see Billie’s new tag partner tonight? And can it please just be Peyton Royce?
What will you be watching for when SmackDown returns tonight at 8 PM ET on Fox?
