Talking Smack’s Rock interview was a clip from Jay Glazer’s Instagram
We should have known when it was announced approximately six hours before showtime. Or realized anything meaningful wasn’t going on a mid-tier cable network a substantial portion of the audience doesn’t get.
If WWE and Fox had anything like a new or meaningful interview with Dwayne The Rock Johnson on tap, it would have been hyped all week, and/or saved for the main broadcast network.
But many of us convinced ourselves this would continue the long build toward a Roman Reigns vs. Rocky WrestleMania match. I was one of those people.
Hi, my is Sean, and I’m a mark.
What we got was even less than what we should have expected when a clearly pre-taped interview with one of the world’s biggest stars was announced at 4 p.m. for a 10 p.m. airing on FS1… a snippet of something that debuted on Instagram last month.
It was Rock telling Jay Glazer the story of how he got Vince McMahon to let him ditch the generic babyface Rocky Maivia he debuted with in 1996 and his own man on the microphone. That involved a heel turn, a run with the Nation of Domination, and the rest is history.

It’s a good story. But it’s not trash talking Roman. And it’s something we’ve heard before – including this exact version of it last month.

Sasha Banks’ interview with Charlotte Wilder likewise didn’t contain anything new, but at least it wasn’t a repackageing of an IG Live.

So there you have it. We have no one to blame but ourselves.
