Asuka explains her decision to team with Charlotte at TLC

One thing WWE didn’t bother with explaining at TLC was why Asuka would choose Charlotte Flair as her partner for her tag team title match against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. As it turns out, it’s a rather simple explanation.

As she explained in an interview after the two became women’s tag team champions:

“I’m so happy. Without Lana, I wanted the best: Charlotte.”

As for Flair:

“Honestly, I’m honored to be the tag team champion with Asuka but just being back in front of the fans and being back with someone I respect the most in this business… we have a lot of history, and the fact that she could have had anyone as her partner and she wanted me means a lot. So not only was I nervous for the fans, I was nervous for Asuka. But man it feels good to be back. I never thought I would be the tag team champion with her but let’s see how far we can go.”

It’s an odd pairing one can’t imagine will last all that long, but that’s pretty much what we said about the Jax/Baszler team they just beat.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
