Royal Rumble match card & rumors

The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Royal Rumble event set to take place on Sun., Jan. 31, 2021, at the ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, the company’s annual beginning of the year showcase featuring its most popular gimmick match. It will crown the next number one contender to either the Raw (World) or SmackDown (Universal) championship for the men, and either the Raw or SmackDown women’s title for the women.

We’re still a full month out from showtime, and only one thing is official for the show so far:

  • Men’s Royal Rumble match

Daniel Bryan officially declared his intention to enter this match on Friday Night SmackDown this week.

  • Women’s Royal Rumble match

No one has officially declared for the match just yet.

As far as rumors, there was a rumor that Daniel Bryan could be challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal title on this show but that’s out the window with the announcement of Bryan in the Rumble, or at least it would seem to be. It’s possible they still double dip. There’s also been talk that Matt Riddle could be challenging Bobby Lashley for the United States championship, as they’ve been linked on television multiple times recently.

We’ll know more very quickly. But let’s be honest — it’s Royal Rumble, you’re tuning in no matter what other matches are planned.
