Boa & Xia Li are coming to New Year’s Evil
And a Cruiserweight title match, too.
A couple months back on NXT, Boa began delivering mysterious messages to Xia Liafter her matches, which caused her to become more and more desperate about picking up wins. When she wasn’t able to change her fortunes, a mysterious older man summoned the pair before a woman whose identity is hidden by a hooded cloak.
For weeks now, we’ve been subjected to videos of Li and Boa being tormented under the guise of training. These sessions are being carried out by the man, at the direction of the unknown woman. Recently, we’ve seen lots of Xia beating a bloody Boa until both seem at their breaking point.
Tonight (Dec. 30), they appeared to “graduate”. Now in clean white gi, they received a gray marking on their face from the man, then followed the woman into the light. We learned they’ll be on next week’s episode of NXT.

That show will be the TakeOver-like New Year’s Evil card. In addition to the four matches already announced and Li & Boa’s return, NXT also booked a lucha libre dream match for the Cruiserweight title. Building off a win over Legado Del Fantasma on tonight’s show, Lucha House Party’s Gran Metalik will get a shot at Santos Escobar.
