You can’t just declare for the Rumble, unless your name isn’t Drew Gulak

WWE’s Twitter

So far, everyone who’s been announced for the 2021 Royal Rumble matches has just said they’re in the match.

For a second it looked like that was changing. On Raw last night (Jan. 11) Universal championship #1 contender Adam Pearce told Drew Gulak he had to beat AJ Styles to get in the Rumble.

Turns out it was just Gulak, though. Minutes later, Dana Brooke & Mandy Rose declared themselves for the women’s match.

It’s the kind of inconsistency that would be easy to address and drives a lot of fans mad. On the bright side, it gave the former Cruiserweight champ something to do outside the 24/7 title scene. If WWE wants or needs to, it could be a good mid-card angle for Gulak, helping him get over as a babyface striving to earn a spot in Jan. 31’s battle royal.

And maybe it’s not just the Philadelphia Stretcher? Despite her tag partner and the announce crew acting like she’s in, Shayna Baszler hasn’t been confirmed as an entrant in the women’s match yet. Here’s the updated list for that match, now at six declared:

  • Nia Jax
  • Charlotte Flair
  • Bayley
  • Bianca Belair
  • Mandy Rose
  • Dana Brooke

With Styles’ win, the line-up for the men’s Rumble is unchanged:

  • Daniel Bryan
  • Bobby Lashley
  • AJ Styles
  • Randy Orton

To be honest, I was going to announce my entry today, but Pearce’s handling of Gulak has given me pause. I don’t want to have to deal with Omos.

We’ll keep you posted on new entrants, self-declared or otherwise.
