Alex Shelley says he does not have COVID

Impact’s Twitter

After WWE announced Drew McIntyre had tested positive for COVID, a report said his case was part of an outbreak that would affect “almost all nationally televised brands.”

So yesterday, when Alex Shelley was pulled from tonight’s main event of Impact’s Hard to Kill PPV, many assumed it was because the Motor City Machine Gun veteran had contracted the virus himself.

Not so, per the man himself, who also promises he’ll still get payback on Kenny Omega, Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows for attacking him:

“There are certain things in life that are just out of our control, and unfortunately my ability to compete at Hard to Kill has been dropped into that bucket. So on that note, I owe an apology to Chris Sabin, I owe one to Rich Swann, I owe one of the fans, and I owe a receipt to The Good Brothers and Kenny Omega. I don’t like getting beat up by you, but I’ve accepted that that’s happened multiple times and I was looking forward to returning the favor. So you’ll get that in the mail, and you’ll keep the yellow copy.

“I assure everyone out there – I do not have COVID. I am not orthopedically injured, but in the interest of safety, my situation is a very complex one, I put that first, as does IMPACT management, and they are doing the utmost in terms of precautions to make sure that nobody is at risk at Hard to Kill or going forward.

“However, as a transient figure in pro wrestling, I promise you that no matter what, I’ll be back in IMPACT. You can count on that.”

While flat out stating what he doesn’t have, by not providing any information about what is keeping him off tonight’s show, this seems likely to trigger even more speculation about what’s going on with Shelley.

Maybe that’s the point? Whenever his “situation” gets less “complex”, fans will probably still be interested in seeing the Rich Swann & MCMG vs. Bullet Club match Impact was promoting until yesterday. This keeps fans talking, and who knows where a “transient figure” like Shelley might show up to get his revenge.

Whatever’s going on, we wish him good health.
