You’ll totally guess who advanced in the Dusty Classics on 205 Live

For the past couple Fridays, WWE featured action from the Men’s and Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournaments on 205 Live. It’s the latest attempt to get fans to check out the purple brand on the Network, and perhaps a sign it’s being transitioning from being strictly cruiserweight-focused to NXT’s B-show.

On Fri., Jan. 22, there were two Dusty Classic bouts in 205 Live’s line-up. Each featured one team of well-known names with storylines currently running on Wednesday nights. On the other side of the men’s match was a pair of cruiserweight midcarders. In the women’s match, it was two wrestlers whose signing was just announced this week.

Neither resulted in an upset.

In the opener, The Way’s Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell survived a game challenge from Cora Jade (fka Elayna Black) & Gigi Dolin (fka Priscilla Kelly). A blind tag allowed Hartwell to put Jade down with a belly-to-back slam.

Timothy Thatcher & Tommaso Ciampa were able to set their differences aside and deal with Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari. Ciampa ended the match by delivering a Willow’s Bell to former Cruiserweight champion Nese. It also kind of felt like a message to Thatcher.

With those first rounders in the books, the men’s quarterfinals are set:

Next Wednesday (Jan. 27), Kushida & Leon Ruff vs. The Grizzled Young Veterans and MSK vs. Drake Maverick & Killian Dain will take place on NXT.

There are two more women’s bouts to go before we know the semi-final match-ups there:

Dakota Kai & Raquel González face Aliyah & Jessi Kamea on NXT next week.

Anyone’s bracket busted yet?
