All Out preview: Will AEW’s future be ruled by a prodigy or a lunatic?
All Elite Wrestling
AEW is going All Out tonight (Sep. 5, 2020) for their latest PPV. The nine-bout main card kicks off at 8 pm ET. Let’s run down the storylines and x-factors for each contest to get you prepared for the evening’s festivities.
AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs MJF
It’s on between @JonMoxley and @The_MJF tomorrow night at #AEWAllOut Here’s a look back to see how this feud developed over time pic.twitter.com/eAPn1wVBkp
— All Elite Wrestling on TNT (@AEWonTNT) September 4, 2020
MJF demanded a championship bout as #1 in the rankings and his wish was granted. He has campaigned on the idea of freeing us from Moxley’s dictatorship of lunatic wrestling. For all of MJF’s bravado, he did try to screw Moxley in his title match against Darby Allin. That plan failed and MJF later ate a Paradigm Shift for his treachery. The plan that did not fail is MJF managed to get Moxley’s signature finisher contractually banned. With that advantage, MJF plans to wrestle circles around Moxley as the true prodigy that he is.
X-factor: Wardlow. He’ll no doubt be ringside and also no doubt get physically involved. The question is if these underhanded tactics pay off or backfire. MJF and Wardlow have had their share of bumbles in the past that resulted in defeat.
AEW Women’s Championship: Hikaru Shida (c) vs Thunder Rosa
With the AEW women’s division depleted due to injury and coronavirus travel restrictions, Shida was open to any challenge. That challenge came in the form of NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa.
Feel the pressure, feel the blood running on your face…. but never show fear…. no matter what happens this week, I feel no fear, fear no evil….. I was born for this! #heartofachampion #AllOut #nwachampion #makinghistory #lameramera pic.twitter.com/P8UDs9jQPV
— Thunder Rosa (@thunderrosa22) September 1, 2020
X-factor: Meteora. Late Friday night, Shida received permission from CIMA to use his diving double knee drop finisher. She plans to fire it with all her soul. That could end up being the move that puts Thunder Rosa down for the count.
CIMAさん!!ありがとうございます!魂込めて使わせていただきます!!!! #AEWAllOut #Meteora #AEW https://t.co/DTI2aQccCp

AEW World Tag Team Championship: Hangman Page & Kenny Omega (c) vs FTR
FTR earned their opportunity by winning a gauntlet match. That part is simple. What’s not so simple is all the extra drama involved. FTR bonds better with Hangman than his Elite brethren. They used that to their advantage to plant devious ideas in Hangman’s head. After Hangman snake bit the Young Bucks, the venom has caused the Elite to decay. It seems like Hangman and Omega have trust issues again despite so many successful title defenses.
X-factor: Who’s fooling who? The relationship between these four does not pass the smell test. It could cause Hangman and Omega to combust and burn everything they have worked so hard for as tag champs. If there is a heel turn, it is a 50/50 guess.
Mimosa Mayhem Match: Chris Jericho vs Orange Cassidy
Cassidy garnered the ire of Le Champion by rudely walking in the background of an Inner Circle promo. That led to a match in which Jericho was victorious. Cassidy goaded Jericho into a rematch by dumping gallons of orange juice from the ceiling and ruining Jericho’s $7,000 white jacket. Cassidy won the rematch. Jericho issued a challenge for a rubber match to find out who is the better man. The kicker is that it will be a Mimosa Mayhem Match with a vat containing 500 cases of A Little Bit of the Bubbly and 80 gallons of orange juice. Winner by pinfall, submission, or being thrown into the mimosa.
X-factor: Power level increase. This concept was an inventive idea from the mind of Jericho, but I fear the potential of unforeseen consequences. What if Cassidy gets dunked then emerges with super mimosa powers. I’m imagining a morphing into Blanka from Street Fighter. That would be Jericho’s worst nightmare.
Broken Rules: Matt Hardy vs Sammy Guevara
Hardy’s ego took a hit when Guevara brushed aside the suggestion to ditch Jericho and the Inner Circle. The feud ignited when Guevara used the wrong chair to bust Hardy open hardway. That led to a tables match in which Guevara was victorious. Hardy stated that he will not stop until he deletes Guevara. Sammy is sick of dealing with Matt, so he offered any type of match Matt wants with the condition that Matt must leave AEW forever if he loses. The chosen stipulation is Broken Rules, which is just a fancy Last Man Standing contest.
X-factor: Blood. Unintended red has been gushed twice. Expect more to come. The loser may actually pass out in real life from blood loss. That would be a fitting end to this feud.
Tooth & Nail: Dr. Britt Baker DMD vs Big Swole
Big Swole overreacted to trash-talk by dumping trash onto AEW’s role model. Swole was rightfully suspended for her actions, but she blamed Dr. Baker. Swole earned the match by beating Reba then earned the stipulation by winning a 3-on-1 handicap match. Swole wants to take the action to where Dr. Baker works and fight Tooth & Nail. This bout was moved from the pre-show to the main card.
X-factor: Cinematic experience. If AEW goes the pre-produced route for this bout, then it favors Dr. Baker. It will protect the good dentist from any potential lingering knee issues in her return from injury. Since the contest will be on Dr. Baker’s home turf, she’ll have the advantage with a variety on dental tools at her disposal. I’m not sure if Swole knows how to work the laughing gas.
Casino Battle Royale
21 wrestlers enter, 1 wrestler leaves with a shot at the AEW World Championship. Lance Archer, Brian Cage, Ricky Starks, Darby Allin, Eddie Kingston, Butcher, Blade, Fenix, Pentagon, Santana, Ortiz, Trent, Chuck Taylor, and Billy Gunn are on the match graphic. Shawn Spears, Austin Gunn, and Jake Hager partook in the hype brawl on Dynamite. That leaves four spots open.
Stories within the mix are Archer beefing with Cage, Allin wanting revenge on Team Taz, Kingston corralling Blade, Butcher, Fenix, and Pentagon to all act as a unit, and Best Friends protecting the honor of Sue from the salacious allegations of Ortiz and Santana. There may be a new feud brewing as well. You’ve heard of big man heat. Well, now it is time for fashion heat between Ricky Starks and Butcher.
Wow. A new fashion competitor appears https://t.co/U1f1cNsqa7
— Ricky Starks (@starkmanjones) September 4, 2020
X-factor: To be announced. The surprise of four remaining spots could be used for a top dog or an interesting twist. PAC is the biggest name missing within AEW. WARHORSE could be a candidate to get a return pop. The NWA might loan a few notable names, such as Eli Drake and James Storm. Rusev, Rowan, Mike Bennett, and Cain Velasquez are still free agents after being released by WWE. Other wildcards could be Heath Slater and EC3. Both have appeared on Impact, but Heath is trying to get a job in storyline and EC3 has stated his desire to work for several promotions.
Dark Order (Mr. Brodie Lee, Colt Cabana, Evil Uno, & Stu Grayson) vs. The Natural Nightmares, Matt Cardona, & Scorpio Sky
Mr. Brodie Lee squashed Cody Rhodes to win the TNT Championship then continued to beat Cody down to add insult to injury. Dustin Rhodes, QT Marshall, Cardona, and Sky banded together to right a wrong and defend the honor of the Nightmare Family.
SOCIAL EXCLUSIVE@TheMattCardona had a strong message for Dark Order as him, @ScorpioSky & the Natural Nightmares square off tomorrow night at All Out!

X-factor: A new member of the Dark Order. I doubt Dustin, QT, and Cardona would turn, but you never know. Sky could be a candidate. He is trying to get on weekly TV and may see benefit from the Dark Order’s recent success. There is also Colt Cabana. He’s been on the fringe for long enough. It may be time to make a choice when push comes to shove.
Young Bucks vs Jurassic Express
The Young Bucks and Jurassic Express won an 8-man tag bout with the prize being a spot on the PPV.
X-factor: Rude attitude. The Jacksons have been in a jerky mood ever since Hangman screwed their chance to become #1 contenders. They will be flipping against the cleanest babyfaces on the roster. It could be an opportunity for the Bucks to go full rudo if they get frustrated with the fighting spirit of Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.
A late addition to the evening is Private Party versus Alex Reynolds & John Silver for the pre-show.
