Kay Lee Ray becomes the longest-reigning NXT UK Women’s Champion
Today marks the day that Kay Lee Ray became the longest ever running NXT UK Women’s Champion, surpassing Toni Storm’s reign of 231 days.
The champion took to Twitter to commemorate the history-making moment and in typiclal KLR fashion went looking for her next challenge.
KLR is only the third person to hold the belt since it was created in 2018. Rhea Ripley won a tournament to crown the first-ever NXT UK Women’s Champion back in August 2018. Toni Storm would defeat Ripley to become the second champion at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool in Jan 2019. KLR would capture the NXT UK Women’s Championship from Toni Storm at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff in Aug 2019.
Since winning the championship KLR has defended it in an amazing Triple Threat match that involved Piper Niven and Storm. The match took place at NXT UK TakeOver Blackpool II earlier this year and was easily the best women’s match in the company’s history.
KLR would take on and destroy Storm in a brutal I Quit match that showed just how far KLR will go to protect her championship and left Toni Storm unable to challenge for the title while KLR holds it.
With Toni Storm unable to challenge for the title, only Piper Niven remains as the next credible challenger. Niven and KLR have a storied history also and tore each other apart during their time in ICW. If they can recapture any of that magic then we are in for a treat.
All at Diva Dirt wish to congratulate Kay Lee Ray on this amazing achievement.
