The Kings of NXT’s first title defense ends in chaos

Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch won the NXT Tag titles from Breezango thanks to the reveal of Pat McAfee as a Machiavellian figure who’d been plotting against Undisputed ERA for weeks. Since then, the group added Pete Dunne and took out Drake Maverick & Killian Dain.

Most of those stories came together as Lorcan & Burch defended their titles for the first time in a rematch with Tyler Breeze & Fandango. But we’re still waiting for the return of the ERA.

The main event started with McAfee leading his group, (thus far unofficially) dubbed “The Kings of NXT” to the ring and cutting his now customary promo putting over his team and running down the fans. He joined Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph and Beth Phoenix on commentary for the match – a bout that neither team could get control of for the first half of its ten minute runtime.

Things started to break down when the action spilled to the outside however…

… and really went crazy when Maverick showed up looking to even the score and avenge Dain, sent to the hospital when Dunne smashed his face in with a car door.

The Brusierweight was the smartest guy in the room, though. He took out Maverick, used Pat to distract the referee so he could take out Breeze, then watched as Lorcan & Burch nailed Dango with their tandem elevated DDT to retain the titles.

Drake led a post-match assault by the babyfaces, but that darn numbers game left the Kings standing tall after that, too.

The one storyline which didn’t get woven into this was the ERA’s. We didn’t see Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish or Roderick Strong. But we did see McAfee break out the move that knocked Cole senseless to end another chaotic episode months ago.

It should be exciting when Cole & company have finally seen enough of this. Until then…

The Kings of NXT are the greatest. We suck. Cheers.
