Kenny Omega enters the Hall of Fame
All Elite Wrestling
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame, that is.
The newest Wrestling Observer Newsletter is its Hall of Fame issue. Five new members were voted in by Dave Meltzer’s voting body, including All Japan & NOAH legend Jun Akiyama and 37 year old AEW Executive Vice-President & #1 contender for their World title, Kenny Omega.
Like most things Dave and Kenny, this has led to some online debate. It’s not at all surprising that a group of voters selected by Meltzer – someone who’s sung the Canadian’s praises as a generational talent for years and who revealed/created new levels of his match star rating system to account for Omega’s greatness – would tab The Cleaner for induction. He definitely meets the objective critieria (15 years of experience in the wrestling business or be over 35 years old and have 10 years of experience), and arguments can certainly be made for the subjective qualifications (things like historical significance, being a draw, and in-ring skill).
But while it’s kind of impossible to wait for the end of a wrestler’s career since most never stick to retirement, declaring a guy to be among the greatest & most important of all-time when he’s still in his prime will get a reaction.
For Kenny’s part, he’s being humble and gracious.
I’m not even sure what to say. To be amongst those that have done so much for our sport is incredibly humbling. With however many years I have left as an active performer, I’ll keep trying my best to contribute something positive to the world of Pro Wrestling. https://t.co/35o26HAIGh

We’ll just sit back and enjoy the debate.
Congrats to Omega, Akiyama, and fellow 2020 inductees Medcio Asesino, Karloff Lagarde, and Dan Koloff!
