Rhea Ripley had five earrings ripped out during Io Shirai match

WWE Network

The main event of the Nov. 18 NXT, where Io Shirai successfully retained the Women’s title after a war with Rhea Ripley, lived up to the hype. It also landed both wrestlers on Matt Camp’s NXT Injury Report, and gave Ripley a permanent reminder of the match.

About midway through their 20 minute classic, it’s clear Rhea was bleeding from her left ear. It’s hard to tell exactly when it happened – the first time I spot her checking for blood is before a superplex attempt, but there’s nothing before that which clearly shows five piercings being torn from her ear. And that’s what happened, as we got our latest reminder of the hazards of wrestling with body jewelry.

The Nightmare should be fine, but doctors had to cut pieces of skin off her ear look to make it look “normal-ish”.

Hers isn’t the only legitimate issue that lands on this week’s edition of Camp’s kayfabe-blurring series, either. Raw Underground star Arturo Ruas gets a mention, but only of the body part affected, not the rumored diagnosis.

Here’s the video, and a list of what it covers:

  • Rhea Ripley: Multiple contusions & abrasions on both ears
  • Io Shirai: Sore neck & whiplash; not currently cleared, but not expected to miss time
  • Arturo Ruas: right biceps injury; undergoing MRI, not medically cleared
