The women finally got more time than the men
WWE featured six total matches on the main card of Survivor Series 2020 (Sun., Nov. 22).
The main card of this pay-per-view (PPV) lasted 3 hours, 27 minutes, and 10 seconds (3h 27m 10s). Here is a sorted list of the bell-to-bell times for the six matches that took place during this event:
- 24m 52s: Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns
- 23m 21s: Women’s elimination match
- 18m 59s: Men’s elimination match
- 14m 03s: Street Profits vs. New Day
- 13m 08s: Asuka vs. Sasha Banks
- 7m 46s: Bobby Lashley vs. Sami Zayn
These times add up to 1h 42m 09s, which is roughly 49.3% of the show. For comparison’s sake, the overall match time percentage for all WWE PPVs since the start of 2013 is 54.1%.
The Undertaker’s final farewell played a significant role in the match time percentage falling under 50% for this event. The post-match segment for McIntyre vs. Reigns ended at around the 2h 51m 37s mark, and the match time percentage for the show up to that point was 59.5%. The Undertaker’s non-wrestling segment took up the rest of the night and brought that number down to 49.3%.
The only match on this card that didn’t get much time was Bobby Lashley vs. Sami Zayn, as expected.
That being said, the men’s elimination match time of 18m 59s stands out as a relatively short time for a men’s elimination match. Going back to 2013, here are the match times for all elimination matches on the main card of every Survivor Series event:
If you the sort the above table by Time, you’ll notice that most of the men’s matches go beyond 20 minutes. Prior to this year, 2015 was the only year without a men’s elimination match that lasted longer than 20 minutes. The 2020 men’s match was a clean sweep with only five total eliminations, and so it resulted in a shorter match time than is typically expected.
Prior to 2020, the men’s elimination matches always received more time than the corresponding women’s elimination matches from the same year. Last year I wrote that the time gap was narrowing in recent years, and this year the women finally supplanted the men.
Are you surprised by any of these results, Cagesiders? Which of these matches received less (or more) time than you hoped for?
