Hikaru Shida retains against Anna Jay as Abadon returns to get a taste of the gold
Anna Jay received a huge opportunity in her first championship match. She collided with the AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida on this week’s Dynamite. This would also be a full-circle moment for Jay as Shida was her opponent in her debut match back in March. Jay also had a lot of support around ringside with Tay Conti and members of the Dark Order at ringside with her.
The match starts off with a lot of shoving back and forth between the two. Jay was able to get the Queen Slayer locked in quickly but Shida was able to break away. After a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker from the champion to the challenger, it didn’t take long until the action spilled to the outside. Jay delivered many chops to the champion as she slammed her back and forth between the barricade and the ring apron.
After delivering a neckbreaker to Shida, Jay told Conti to hand her a steel chair. Conti seemed against it as she knew that if Jay used it then she would be disqualified with no chance at winning the title.
As the referee was dealing with Conti and the steel chair, John Silver handed Jay the kendo stick which she used on Shida to take her out at the knee. By the time the referee turned around, Jay only got a two count. Jay tried to stay on top of the champion as she locked in a submission that Shida was able to get out of.
After a couple of near falls from both women, Shida connected with the Tamashii to get the three count and secure the victory to remain champion.
After the match, Shida would limp away from the ring to the ramp. As she is celebrating her victory, Abadon’s music hits.
Abadon makes her return as she crawls towards Shida who is obviously creeped out by the bloody mouthed sight. As Shida backs aways he drops her championship. Abadon picks it up and gives it a lick which horrifies the champion. By the looks of it we have a new challenger for the AEW Women’s World Title.
Abadon was last seen in August in a match against Dani Jordyn on AEW Dark. She was slated for a match against Tay Conti in October which resulted in an injury for her. The match never aired.
