Impact’s most intriguing match for Kenny Omega is intergender

The biggest news for Impact this week was Kenny Omega winning the AEW World Championship with Don Callis by his side then Callis shouting that we will learn more Tuesday night on Impact Wrestling. Impact hasn’t been shy about leaning into the controversy. They even focused this week’s top 5 countdown around it with the most epic inter-promotional showdowns.

5. LAX vs Marufuji & Ishimroi vs Drago & Fantasma vs Garza & Laredo Kid – Slammiversary (July 2, 2017)
4. James Storm & Sanada vs Tajiri & Great Muta – TNA Bound for Glory (Oct. 12, 2014)
3. Chris Sabin vs Juventud Guerrera – NWA-TNA PPV #81 (Feb. 11 2004)
2. Eddie Edwards vs Jeremiah Crane (aka Sami Calliahn – Impact Wrestling vs Lucha Underground (Apr. 6, 2018)
1. Kurt Angle vs Yuji Nagata – NJPW Wrestle Kingdom II (Jan. 4, 2008)

With Impact officially confirming an appearance from Omega, it would seem like a waste not to get at least one match out of him. Let’s look at the potential candidates.

If there is one man that represents Impact Wrestling at this point in time, I would choose Eddie Edwards. He’s been a loyal veteran with fighting spirit to never quit. Rich Swann is the current top dog as Impact World Champion. If Omega wanted to become a belt collector, then Swann could be his target.

Do you know who else is a belt collector? Taya.

In my opinion, Taya is the most intriguing opponent for Omega in Impact Wrestling. She is arguably the most decorated wrestler on the roster. Taya is the current AAA Reina de Reinas Champion. She’s held that title for 448 days. Taya is recognized as the longest reigning Impact Knockouts Champion at 377 days before dropping the belt in January of 2019. She has also won at least four other women’s championships in various promotions.

While Edwards or Swann would be the more traditional route, giving Taya the shot would really make some news. Taya herself would be on board with a match against Omega.

Omega is no stranger to intergender action. He participated in AEW’s only intergender experiment by tagging with Riho against Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford. This could be a chance for Omega to have some fun in a type of match not seen often in AEW.

Impact isn’t shy about intergender wrestling either. Tessa Blanchard was crowned their world champ earlier this year. Even though Impact has scaled back the number of intergender contests, they still book mixed matches when the situation calls for it.

Who would you like to see from the Impact roster wrestle Omega? Would rolling with intergender for Omega vs Taya be smart business or a mistake?

Impact Wrestling airs Tuesday nights at 8 pm ET on AXS TV and Impact’s Twitch channel. They also have a variety of TV deals around the globe.
