COVID forces changes to ROH Final Battle PPV card
Ring of Honor is set to return to PPV on Dec. 18 with their annual Final Battle event. But it won’t be with the line-up they were planning. The company announced today (Dec. 11) that four wrestlers tested positive in COVID-19 testing done before they travelled to Baltimore for the show.
FOUR PERFORMERS WILL NOT APPEAR AT FINAL BATTLE AS RESULT OF PRE-TRAVEL TESTING PROTOCOLS
With the health and safety of Ring of Honor’s talent, staff and fans the company’s No. 1 priority during the pandemic, ROH enacted stringent COVID-19 protocols in conjunction with the Maryland State Athletic Commission.
As a result of pre-travel testing, the following performers will not appear at the Final Battle pay-per-view on Dec. 18:
Bandido
EC3
Flamita
Kenny KingAll four performers are doing well and resting at home. ROH wishes them a speedy recovery and looks forward to their return to action in 2021.
All other ROH performers, production staff and general staff are safely in the ROH bubble after passing their second round of tests.
Changes to the Final Battle card given this development will be announced during Final Battle Hour One, which airs free from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern on Best on the Planet, STIRR City, Facebook, YouTube, FITE, pay-per-view and for HonorClub members on ROHWrestling.com.
The loss of EC3 is the big blow. He was set to face Jay Briscoe in a singles match that was probably the biggest potential draw for fans who don’t regularly watch ROH.
It also means the show will be down one set of belts, and two talented champions. Flamita & Bandido are, along with Rey Horus, the defending Six-Man Tag champs. They were set to defend against Shane Taylor & Soldiers of Savagery (Moses & Kaun).
King had not been announced for Final Battle as of yet.
Here’s a look at what’s left:
– RUSH (c) vs. Brody King for the ROH World championship
– PCO & Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham (c) for the ROH Tag Team titles
– Jonathan Gresham (c) vs. Flip Gordon for the Pure championship
– Tony Deppen vs. Dak Draper vs. LSG vs. Josh Woods for a TV title shot
– Mike Bennett & Matt Taven vs. Vincent & Bateman
– Wheeler Yuta & Fred Yehi vs. Tracy Williams & Rhett Titus (Pure Rules match)
Send a healthy thought to Bandido, EC3, Flamita & Kenny King. We’ll keep you posted on next Friday’s line-up.
