The Men’s Royal Rumble was the best WWE match in 2020
WWE will present its Slammy Awards again this year after a long hiatus and voting is currently ongoing for a variety of categories. One that draws a lot of attention is the “Match of the Year.”
Here are the options they have listed:
There are unquestionably some fine matches there, despite the fact that the majority of this year saw WWE running shows without any fans in attendance. That led to the Boneyard match between Undertaker and AJ Styles that has to be considered a frontrunner, and, because this is a fan vote, is probably going to win.
The reality, though, and this may be a first, at least in my mind, the men’s Royal Rumble match was the best match in WWE this past year.
I would argue it was one of the best Royal Rumble matches of all time, and I might even go so far as to say it’s the very best. They put together a legitimately compelling story with the WWE champion at the time, Brock Lesnar, entering first and running through 13 consecutive guys before ever being faced with any kind of challenge. They let it breathe just long enough to make it seem like they could really be doing something crazy and allowing him to go the whole way and that’s when Drew McIntyre came in and went over huge by eliminating him and ultimately winning the match.
That’s without mentioning Edge, one of the most beloved stars of the past 30 years, making his return to the ring after a decade away. It was a legitimately special moment that put the match over the top.
If you disagree, let me know.
