Wrestling remembers NFL Hall of Famer, WCW wrestler Kevin Greene
Greene, who brought passion & energy to his guest stints on Nitro in the 90s, died yesterday. He was 58.
If you’re a football fan and a wrestling fan of a certain age, you remember Kevin Greene. Throughout a 15 year NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers, he collected the third most quarterback sacks in the league’s history. More than that though, Greene was a larger than life personality – popular in locker rooms & at fan meet & greets, and an always entertaining interview.
Those skills made him a perfect fit for pro wrestling, and he excelled in multiple stints with WCW in the 90s. Greene deserves a place on any list of “best celebrity wrestlers.” The NFL Hall of Famer held his own with the many wrestling Hall of Famers on Nitro during the Monday Night War era, notably working programs against the nWo in babyface alliances, first with Roddy Piper & Ric Flair, and later with Goldberg.
When the news came out yesterday (Dec. 21) that Greene was dead at age 58, many of those legends and others from around the wrestling world paid tribute.

RIP Kevin Greene. This is a real bummer. He was a defensive force. As a lifelong @RamsNFL fan I immediately was a big fan of his larger than life personality on and off the field. It’s fitting that he later got involved in pro wrestling. God speed sir.
