AEW moves New Year’s Smash to make this week a Brodie Lee tribute show

For good or ill, pro wrestling is a show must go on business. Everyone at All Elite Wrestling was faced with producing an episode of television this upcoming Weds., Dec. 30, just days after learning that one of their best, Jon “Brodie Lee” Huber, was taken too soon at the age of 41.

President Tony Khan said he hasn’t slept much since Huber’s death last week, but he stayed up all night on Sunday putting together a tribute card for this week. The show, dubbed “Brodie Lee: Celebration of Life 1979 – 2020”, is designed to honor the man we lost and give some solace to Huber’s widow, Amanda, and their two sons Brodie & Nolan. Members of Lee’s Dark Order stable are featured in every bout on this week’s Dynamite.

– Cody Rhodes, Orange Cassidy & Preston “10” Vance, three of Brodie (aka “-1”)’s favorites, will team for one night only to face Brian Cage, Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs of Team Taz

– The Young Bucks & Colt Cabana vs. Matt Hardy & Private Party

– Hangman Adam Page, Jon Silver & Alex Reynolds vs. MJF, Santana & Ortiz

– Anna Jay & Tay Conti vs. Dr. Britt Baker & Penelope Ford

– Lance Archer, Evil Uno & Stu Grayson vs. Eddie Kingston, The Butcher & The Blade

– Chris Jericho will be on commentary

The already announced line-ups for AEW’s two New Year’s Smash episodes, which feature World, TNT and Women’s title defenses and the return of Jon Moxley, will now shift to Jan. 6 & 13.

Props to Khan and his team for making this happen. It should be a great show that none of us ever wanted to see.
