Thank You Brodie!

AEW

All Elite Wrestling comes our way from Jacksonville, Florida. Last week, the wrestling world was shocked to learn about the sudden passing of Jon Huber, aka Brodie Lee.

In lieu of a traditional Dynamite show, Tony Khan announced on Twitter that they would be delaying New Year’s Smash a week to make this week a “Brodie Lee tribute show.” This show will highlight Brodie’s career, his impact on the wrestlers he worked with, and matches booked with his Dark Order family front and center.

This Week’s Headliner:

Brodie Lee took a fledgling tag team with good video production and transformed them into a mainstay stable regularly featured on Dynamite. Their shenanigans on BTE were fan favorites as were their shenanigans in the ring. It was a genuine treat to watch a man most wrestling fans knew from other companies get a chance to revitalize and reinvent himself weekly on live tv. Personally, his discus clothesline has always been a favorite of mine and I’ll miss him attempting to murder people with his arm every week.

Tonight the card features:

-Cody Rhodes, Orange Cassidy & Preston “10” Vance will team up for one night only to face Brian Cage, Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs of Team Taz. This one is special because Cody, Cassidy & 10 are three of Brodie (aka -1’s) favorite wrestlers.

-The AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks will team with Colt Cabana to take on Matt Hardy & Private Party.

-Honorary Dark Order member Hangman Adam Page will team with Jon Silver & Alex Reynolds to wrestle The Inner Circle’s MJF, Santana & Ortiz. Hopefully, in matching hats.

-The Dark Order’s Anna Jay & Tay Conti will take on the mean girls, Dr. Britt Baker & Penelope Ford.

-Lance Archer will join Dark Order founders Evil Uno & Stu Grayson to take on Eddie Kingston and his own acolytes The Butcher & The Blade.

-And finally, Chris Jericho will be holding it down with the regular team on commentary.

Tonight isn’t about long feuds or storylines. It’s about celebrating one man’s life and work through the thing he loved most in the world after his family. Wrestling.

The Title Scene:

AEW Women’s Championship will be defended next week on New Year’s Smash.

TNT Championship will not be defended or featured tonight. Still, Team Taz is in action so expect some classic Darby Allin watching from the stands action.

The AEW Champion Kenny Omega isn’t on the card tonight and has been busy making the wrestling rounds, but next week on New Year’s Smash Jon Moxley returns. I’m sure he’ll have a lot to say about the new champion’s “win.” Oh, and Kenny has to defend his championship against Rey Fenix. Going to be a tough show for one Kenny Omega.

Other Things to Keep an Eye On:

Generally, Twitter is a wasteland, but wrestling Twitter has been full of favorite special Brodie Lee moments since Brodie’s passing. Favorite moments shared by fans, memories of sharing the ring and traveling with Brodie from wrestlers, and just a whole lot of love for this one incredible man who wrestled hard but loved even harder. Do yourself a favor and go read some of those tweets. And bring tissues.

Tune into AEW on TNT at 8 p.m. EST to see how this all plays out!
