The best AEW PPV matches of 2020

All Elite Wrestling

In 2020, we asked you to tell us the best match of the night following each and every All Elite Wrestling PPV – from Revolution to Full Gear. It gave us all a chance to advocate for the bout we enjoyed the most. And it gives us a chance to look back on the year that was for the new kid on the nationally televised wrestling block.

As was also true with their Wednesday night rival NXT, there were several special event episodes of AEW Dynamite – and that means there was some great action not captured here. But this is still a distillation of some of the best wrestling Tony Khan & team served up to us over the last 12 months.

Here’s the results from each “Match of the Night” poll:

  1. Kenny Omega & Hangman Page vs. The Young Bucks
  2. Orange Cassidy vs. PAC

And a list of the top matches from each show, with total votes and percentage of overall votes:

  • Kenny Omega & Hangman Page vs. The Young Bucks at Revolution (1010 votes; 61% of total)
  • Inner Circle vs. The Elite & Matt Hardy in Stadium Stampede at Double or Nothing (979; 63%)
  • Hikaru Shida vs. Thunder Rosa at All Out (527; 40%)
  • The Young Bucks vs. FTR at Full Gear (457; 35%)

While a tag match hasn’t main evented an AEW PPV yet, this shows the promotion is doing the work to make tag team wrestling a main event-level attraction. Also, those Jackson boys are good.

There’s a lot that can be said about the fact a women’s match being singled out, despite all the criticism All Elite gets for their treatment of their division… including that this year’s All Out may been the least well-reviewed event in their short history, and that one of the wrestlers involved isn’t technically a part of the AEW roster.

But that’s all part of the fun of discussing these things! Looking forward to doing more it, and getting more great wrestling from AEW, in 2021!
