MLW Roundup: Von Erichs, Hammerstone, Reed & Rush title fights tonight

MLW’s Twitter

Let’s catch up on the latest news in MLW. The new year is here, and MLW is ready to rumble with three title fights in the Kings of Colosseum special for Fusion.

Kings of Colosseum tonight

Fusion is being presented as a special event called Kings of Colosseum. MLW is making the event live up to special status by offering a grudge match and three championship contests.

  • World Middleweight Championship: Myron Reed (c) vs Lio Rush
  • National Openweight Championship: Alex Hammerstone (c) vs Mads Krugger
  • Tornado World Tag Team Championship: Von Erichs (c) vs. Dirty Blondes (Leo Brien and Michael Patrick)
  • Grudge Match: Simon Gotch vs Jordan Oliver

Myron Reed is looking to build his legacy as the young GOAT. To do achieve that, he is calling out top wrestlers to challenge for his MLW World Middleweight Championship. Lio Rush is the man of the hour on this evening. The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion will be debuting with MLW while also juggling a music career.

When Alexander Hammerstone led the charge to take back MLW’s headquarters from the clutches of the Contra Unit, he put himself square in the crosshairs of Contra. The crooked cabal called for reinforcements in the form of Mads Krugger. An attack from the back put Hammer out of action for a short period. Hammerman has returned, and he is ready to kick Krugger’s ass.

In my opinion, Hammerstone should be careful. I suspect Krugger may be a reptilian humanoid. His face looks like a lizard man in the eye holes under his mask.

Colonel Parker attempted to lure the Von Erichs into his Stud Stable. They declined his advances, so Parker is sending the Dirty Blondes to take the tag titles. The Von Erichs will be out to show they are finger licking good.

When MLW went on hiatus due to the pandemic, Contra used that confusion to execute their takeover. In the process, Contra brutally attacked Kotto Brazil of Injustice. Jordan Oliver wanted revenge and set his sights on calling out Simon Gotch. Oliver talked tough for weeks on end, then he got got by Gotch in a surprise attack. Gotch choked Oliver out in an episode of Pulp Fusion. Tonight, Oliver will finally get his hands on Gotch in a sanctioned bout.

Also advertised are Tom Lawlor’s plans after winning the Opera Cup and a bombshell announcement from Salina de la Renta. The news from La Bruja may be related to her recent trip to Mexico to summon Mil Muertes.

Whatever Salina has in store, just make sure she stays away from the coquito.

MLW Fusion streams on Fubo Sports Network Wednesday nights at 7 pm ET and 10 pm ET, posts on YouTube Wednesdays at 7 pm ET, and airs on beIN SPORTS Saturday nights at 10 pm ET. You can also check out MLW streaming on demand with DAZN. In addition, MLW is broadcast in over 20 countries.

Quick hits

MLW is moving on up. Ratings have increased over the past year.

Health update for Septimo Dragon. He is in stable condition after a third surgery. Septimo Dragon was the victim of a hit-and-run accident.

Could Alicia Atout be preparing to take some bumps in the ring?

Hmm, I wonder if this is to set up Romeo Holliday to save her from harm. Holliday is a streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds. I believe he will be there when Atout needs a hero.

Speaking of Richard Holliday, he has plans to sue Low Ki hard.

We’ll close with a merch sale this week in the MLW shop with Pro Wrestling Tees.
