The best women’s feud in AEW history has been sidelined by COVID

All Elite Wrestling

Back in November, Thunder Rosa and Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. started a program with a pair of saucy tweets. At the time, we somewhat jokingly dubbed it the greatest women’s feud in AEW history.

The joke is that it might not be a joke. Because despite a roster full of talent & potential, the lack of television time women get on Dynamite means they haven’t had a chance to build memorable rivalries or tell stories that make a lasting impression.

Over the past month or so, things haven’t changed too much. Luckily, that means that Rosa vs. Baker is still a pretty hot angle. And it was one that was supposed to give us a singles match on the Jan. 13 Dynamite.

But when the line-up for night two of New Year’s Smash was announced this past Wednesday, that match was missing from the card. Pro wrestling’s favorite dentist was still on the show, but for an edition of her “Waiting Room” talk show segment with Cody as her guest.

So what happened? According to Wrestling Observer, Rosa vs. Baker has been postponed by the pandemic. AEW’s tracing revealed the former NWA Women’s champion recently came into contact with someone who’s tested positive for COVID-19.

The best women’s feud in AEW history will continue at some point, however. So that’s good.

We’re also getting current NWA Women’s champion Serena Deeb defending her belt against Tay Conti on New Year’s Smash night two, which is also good. Dark Order’s Anna Jay will be in Conti’s corner, too. Breakout performances by Jay seem to be our best hope of Tony Khan dedicating more TV time to his women’s roster, so that’s a good thing.

We’ll see if Deeb vs. Conti gets more than a few picture-in-picture minutes at 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 13. In the meantime, fingers crossed for lots of negative tests in Rosa’s future.

Check out the current line-up for next week’s Dynamite here.
