WWE announces Drew McIntyre has tested positive for COVID-19

WWE champion Drew McIntyre was scheduled to renew acquaintances with Randy Orton on Raw tonight (Jan. 11). That won’t be happening, as WWE announced a few minutes ago that McIntyre tested positive for COVID-19 and “has been placed in quarantine.”

As shocking as the news itself is the company’s decision to publicly reveal it. Despite several reports of behind-the-scenes outbreaks in 2020, WWE always worked around or provided other explanations for anyone who was sidelined with the coronavirus. For whatever reason or reasons, they’ve changed course in 2021 for one of their biggest stars.

In addition to the non-title match with Orton which was announced last Friday, Drew also recently a showdown with Goldberg was set-up for Royal Rumble on Jan. 31. It’s possible McIntyre could be healthy and cleared by the end of the month, but WWE may want to set-up a back-up plan just in case.

We’ll find out tonight. Whether or not you join us in our live blog for that, please join us in wishing McIntyre a speedy and full recovery.
