The Rock may have announced a Presidential run in the new Young Rock trailer
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t pretty excited for Young Rock, the new sitcom debuting on NBC next month.
The show follows young Dwayne Johnson during three of his formative years: a ten year old growing up in Hawaii in 1982, starting high school in 1987, and heading to the University of Miami to play football in 1990. It could be horrible, sure. But it’s got the most electrifying man in sports & entertainment teaming up with creators from Fresh Off the Boat, and it’s giving off serious Everybody Hates Chris but with wrestlers vibes.
I’m in.
The first full trailer also reveals the show’s framing device, which is DJ telling stories to a journalist played by Randall Park (of Fresh Off the Boat and MCU fame) during the course of his 2032 campaign for President of these United States. We also get a glimpse of what I presume is Rocky’s running mate or a key member of his proposed cabinet – none other than Ahsoka Tano herself, Rosario Dawson.
Rock’s talked about possibly running for President in the real world a few times over the years. Is this a trial balloon?
While you mull that over, check out the trailer above. In addition to candidate Great One, it also features lots of appearances by fictional versions of not just Johnson’s father, the original Rocky, but lots of your faves from yesteryear, like Andre The Giant, Junkyard Dog, Randy Macho Man Savage and of course, Iron Sheik.
Young Rock premieres Tues., Feb. 16 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern on NBC.
