Maybe McMahon really does know nothing about the NXT product
A lot of fans wonder about Vince McMahon’s knowledge and awareness of the NXT product. When it’s time to debut some new stars on the main roster, does Vince really just tell Triple H that he needs a few of his best guys from NXT, but then have no idea who folks like Aleister Black, Keith Lee, Andrade, and Ricochet are? Considering how many NXT call-ups struggle to get sustained pushes on the main roster, or end up having their ring names and presentation immediately changed once McMahon gets his hands on them, it’s easy to believe the narrative that McMahon doesn’t follow the NXT product at all.
It’s also easy to believe that narrative when a current champion in NXT admits that he has never even met Vince McMahon. Here’s current NXT cruiserweight champion, Santos Escobar, explaining to Sports Illustrated that his main goal in WWE is to meet Vince McMahon:
“I will give you a peculiar answer. There is one thing I haven’t been able to do, and that is meet Vince McMahon. I’m committed to this industry, and that is a lifetime commitment. I was born and raised to do this. I think Vince McMahon is a genius, and I want to meet him. That, to me, is an immediate goal. He will either like me or hate me, but I will discuss my background with him and what I bring to the table. I need to discuss that with Vince McMahon, and that is one of my most immediate goals.
My other goal? I want to be the first Mexican, born and raised, sports entertainer to ever main-event WrestleMania.”
Do you think it’s strange that a current champion in WWE has never even met Vince McMahon?
