Kai & Gonzalez advance in the Dusty Classic; Triple Threat being teased for the NXT Women’s Title
Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez are the newest team to advance in their first-round match-up for the first-eve Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. They defeated the team of Aliyah & Jessi Kamea. Kai & Gonzalez will meet Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro in the semi-finals.
Despite Aliyah & Kamea having a nice showing for the Robert Stone Brand, Gonzalez put the final touches on the match with a one-arm powerbomb planting Kamea for the pin.
There is still one last first-round match to go which will see the debuting Zoey Stark teaming up with Marina Shafir as they take on the power team of Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart. Winners of that round will face Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell in the semi-finals.
The final match of the Dusty Classic to determine the winners will take place at the Feb. 14 TakeOver event.
The NXT Women’s Championship picture heated up as well this week. Both Toni Storm and Mercedes Martinez have their eyes firmly placed to take Io Shirai‘s championship. Shirai has held the title since June where she pinned Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match that also involved then-champion Charlotte Flair.
Shirai and Storm collided in the ring and after their brawl sent Storm to the outside, Martinez picked her spot and took out the champion from behind. Storm and Martinez then argued about the championship belt in the ring before Shirai got back in the mix.
In the end, it was Storm ending the segment with the NXT Women’s Title being held up in the air. Could we be seeing a Triple Threat at TakeOver?
