Can Carmella avoid the fate she suffered at TLC, and that Reggie suffered in securing her this rematch?

The Road to Royal Rumble

After Carmella came up short in her first shot at Sasha Banks’ belt at the last PPV of 2020, a Triple Threat for the WWE Tag Team titles set up a two-on-two affair between Baymella and The Blueprint & Bianca Belair. Carmella pinned the champ in that match on Jan. 1, thanks in large part to the interference of her sommelier, Reginald.

Normally, that would be enough to trigger a rematch. But Sasha has a little more pull than your average Superstar. Must be that Star Wars sway. Whatever it is, she was able to demand a shot at Reginald in exchange for Carmella getting another chance.

She got it, and the former Cirque du Soleil performer was only able to evade her for so long. He tapped to the Bank Statement, just as Mella did at TLC.

The Untouchable One has her rematch, but her sommelier may be getting wine for someone else on Monday.

What’s at stake

Given the roll The Boss has been on, it’s hard to imagine WWE booking a title change here. But if Carmella delivers another quality performance like she did at TLC, she can hopefully remain a player on Friday nights in 2021. Having Reginald by her side is a good gimmick, and his performance chops in and out of the ring should inspire creative to come up with reasons to keep them on screen.

For Sasha, odds are good she’ll get a WrestleMania opponent from the Royal Rumble match. Will it be the dream match with Belair? A chance for her and Bayley to work on the Grandest Stage of Them All?
