AEW Dark recap: The Acclaimed diss Chris Jericho

Episode 73 of AEW Dark featured Nick Comoroto’s power on display, Dr. Britt Baker DMD and Ricky Starks as fashion icons, The Acclaimed dissing Chris Jericho, and SCU on the winning track to remain as a unit.

The most newsworthy moment came during a rap video by The Acclaimed to promote the tag team battle royale on Dynamite. Their competition will be the Young Bucks, Top Flight, Private Party, Jurassic Express, Evil Uno & Stu Grayson, Alex Reynolds & John Silver, Sammy Hager, Santana & Ortiz, and Chris Jericho & MJF. The winner earns a title shot at the Revolution PPV on March 7. If the Bucks win, then they earn the right to pick their opponents.

The Acclaimed roasted each team in a diss track. Check it out at the 47:04 mark of Dark.

The rap went on to insult the Young Bucks and FTR, who have since been suspended for their malicious treatment of a boy and his dinosaur last week.

The one line that stuck out to me was the Lionsault insult to Jericho after his less than stellar aerial attack two weeks ago. That sounds like fighting words for Le Champion to take umbrage. If Jericho and MJF are intent on climbing the rankings, then that diss track should be fuel for a mini feud against The Acclaimed, who are #3 in last week’s rankings.

This was a typical episode of Dark. Everyone performed as expected in showcase bouts. The main event was the best of the bunch, and Nick Comoroto had some cool power moments in the opener.

Excalibur teamed with Taz to call the action. Anthony Ogogo, Austin Gunn, and -1 stopped by to join commentary. Justin Roberts was the ring announcer.

Dustin Rhodes, QT Marshall, & Nick Comoroto defeated M’Badu, Terrence Hughes, & Terrell Hughes. Comoroto called out M’Badu for a big man showdown. M’Badu took a cheap shot to QT on the apron, then the Hughes brothers clubbed Comoroto from behind. They held Comoroto up for a running M’Badu, but Comoroto ducked down to execute a back body drop. A double clothesline from Comoroto put the Hughes boys on their backs. As the match progressed, Comoroto had the hot tag moment to run amok with clotheslines and power slams. Comoroto then did a crazy combo move of a rope-hung DDT to one Hughes and a one-armed press slam to M’Badu at the same time. Comoroto finished off M’Badu with a military press powerslam.

Fenix defeated KC Navarro. The underdog had the masked luchador scouted well for counters and escapes, but Fenix was too strong and prevailed with a frog splash to win.

Tay Conti defeated Tesha Price. Anna Jay and -1 were ringside. Price was a game challenger until Conti turned the tide with three straight judo tosses. That led to a pump kick and a Gory knee strike to the mush for victory.

The Waiting Room. Dr. Britt Baker DMD complimented Kenny Omega as a fashion icon. He’s a shoo-in as future guest if he desires. Baker roasted the Young Bucks and butler Charles Taylor. Ricky Starks entered as the guest of the evening. Baker was dressed in The Rock’s turtleneck and fanny pack outfit, which Ricky Starks has been known to pull off as well. Starks hyped the Team Taz street fight versus Sting and Darby Allin. Baker and Starks began flirting heavy over their good looks and fashion sense. When Baker took off her coat, Tony Schiavone came in as a wet blanket to cool the sexual heat.

Thunder Rosa defeated Dani Jordyn. Thunder Rosa bounced back from a rope-hung DDT to win with a sitdown cradle driver.

Santana & Ortiz defeated Fuego Del Sol & Vary Morales. The underdogs were shifty, but they couldn’t withstand the mean streak from Proud and Powerful. A teamwork fireman’s carry neckbreaker gave Ortiz the pin on Fuego.

Leyla Hirsch defeated Katalina Perez. Hirsch earned an aggressive win with slams and a cross armbreaker submission.

The Acclaimed defeated Ryzin & Danny Limelight. In Max Caster’s pre-match rap, he compared Ryzin’s red hair to a tampon. The Acclaimed were put on their toes throughout. They persevered to win on a slam by Bowens followed by a flying elbow drop from Caster. Ryzin took both moves to be pinned.

Bear Country, Sonny Kiss, & Joey Janela defeated Shawn Dean, Baron Black, Aaron Solow, & Mike Verna. The bout had a hectic pace getting spots in. For the finish, Bear Country utilized a totem pole splash then Janela crashed down on a flying elbow drop to pin Verna.

Ivelisse & Diamante defeated Vertvixen & Jazmin Allure. Las sicarias handled their business to win with a blitz on Allure. Double knee strikes, a double slam, and a double head kick put Allure down for Ivelisse to pin.

Gunn Club defeated John Skyler and Ray Jaz. Billy and Colten did the wrestling, while Austin was on commentary. Colten cleaned house on a tag tag. That led to a teamwork finisher as Colten lifted Skylar into the air for a neckbreaker from Billy. Colten scored the winning pin.

Red Velvet defeated Alex Gracia. Gracia controlled the pace early with arm drags. Velvet stirred it up on a leg lariat. The action was competitive until it was time for Velvet to take it home. A bulldog, standing moonsault, running knees, and single-leg dropkick put Gracia down for the count.

10 defeated Jake St. Patrick. -1 was on commentary. 10 buzzsawed through his opponent to win with a spinebuster then deadlift powerbomb.

SCU defeated Chaos Project. Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian were never in true danger. They finished off their foes with a teamwork tripping clothesline to knock down Luther and Celebrity Rehab to pin Serpentico.

SCU’s winning streak remains intact. This was a solid win against a serviceable squad to tighten up SCU’s game before they venture into deeper water. Remember, the next loss will be their last as a team. That was Frankie Kazarian’s arrangement for one final run with Christopher Daniels.

Nick Comoroto was the standout as a beast. His power game was creative and exciting. KC Navarro also did well. That was probably his best performance in his time on Dark. Of course, wrestling Fenix will have that effect on many. Nice to see Leyla Hirsch on the A-side as a winner. It was obvious from her first appearance that she has high potential.
