AEW Rankings: Major shakeup in women’s top 5

All Elite Wrestling

AEW released their latest rankings (Feb. 3, 2021). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.

Men:

 AEW

Oh, wow. Fresh blood! The men finally have new contenders in the mix. MJF and Ricky Starks were given the boot and replaced by Fenix and Miro respectively. I am truly surprised that changes were made. It comes just in time for Beach Break to make a super team out of #1 Jon Moxley, #3 Fenix, and #5 PAC to match up against AEW World Champion Kenny Omega with Impact Tag Team Champions Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.

In terms of order, I’d argue PAC should be #3. I believe he has the strongest win in beating Eddie Kingston. Miro’s big win was Chuck Taylor. Fenix’s resume is bolstered by a tough loss to Omega in a championship bout. I agree with Moxley and Cody Rhodes in the top spots. If Cody gets another quality singles victory before Mox competes solo again, then I think Cody would have done enough to be ranked #1.

Women:

 AEW

Another wow. More fresh blood! Serena Deeb holds tight at #1. Big Swole, Nyla Rose, Penelope Ford, and Anna Jay were all dumped in favor of Red Velvet, Dr. Britt Baker DMD, Thunder Rosa, and Tay Conti accordingly. This appears to be a case of being more active in the ring. All the new ladies have had more matches than the rest.

Beach Break and Revolution are likely an important factor as well. I’m sure it is no coincidence that Thunder Rosa versus Baker tonight on Dynamite all of a sudden became a top 5 clash. Red Velvet’s ranking shows her as someone to be taken seriously to new fans for the build toward Cody & Velvet versus Shaquille O’Neal & Jade Cargill at the PPV on March 7.

As for the top 5 order, I’d flip Thunder Rosa with Velvet. I think Rosa’s past success as NWA Women’s Champion should give her the benefit of the doubt over an unproven commodity in Velvet. Whoever emerges victorious tonight between Thunder Rosa and Baker should be ranked ahead of Velvet next week.

Tag Team:

 AEW

The Inner Circle is coming in strong. Chris Jericho & MJF popped up two spots to hop over The Acclaimed. Santana & Ortiz are back in the mix at #5. The Dark Order duo of Stu Grayson & Evil Uno dropped out from #4. They have yet to have a two-man tag team contest this year.

The Young Bucks should know their title challengers by the end of the night. A tag team battle royale is scheduled for Dynamite to determine their opponent at Revolution.

Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
