Angle knows how much money it would take for AEW to sign Lesnar

Brock Lesnar is reportedly a free agent, which raises the possibility that he could eventually sign a major deal with AEW, UFC, or some other wrestling or MMA promotion.

Kurt Angle appeared on The Wrestling Inc. Daily podcast to offer his thoughts on what’s going on with Brock:

“Something had to have happened, because I heard they pulled all his merchandise off the shelves. So it’s not just Brock not having a contract, and not knowing where he wants to go. I think something happened. Brock either quit, or the company…obviously they’re not gonna let him go. Brock’s pretty level-headed, he doesn’t get into any trouble, so there’s no reason to fire the kid. He’s a tremendous athlete and tremendous employee. So, I think Brock just got tired of doing it. I don’t know. I don’t know if he wants to fight again. I don’t know if he wants to go to another company. I cannot see him going to another company, unless Tony Khan wants to pay him 10, 20 million dollars…you never know.

I think Brock should just end his career in WWE. The way they treat him, the way he gets paid, I don’t know why he’d not want to just stay. It’s really up to him, but I think he wants to fight. I think that’s the reason.”

Angle thinks Lesnar wants to get back in the UFC Octagon for a mega-fight against Jon Jones:

“Brock’s told me that several times, that’s who he wants…I think that might be the only way to get Brock to fight. I think he just wants Jones.”

Kurt also talked about his own free agency. He was released by WWE in April, but remains on good terms with the promotion. Is there any chance he would make an appearance for AEW? Don’t hold your breath over it.

“Right now, I would say it’s off the table. I’m okay where I am.”

Angle elaborated on his own retirement from the squared circle, and admits he was embarrassed with how he looked during his final run in a WWE ring:

“I decided that I was going to retire. I wasn’t supposed to retire when I did, but I told Vince I didn’t want to do it anymore. And that’s when I said I’d like to wrestle Cena. He said, ‘I cant give him to you this year because you got a program with Corbin the last 8 months, you got to finish it up.’ And Vince was right, so I did it. And he said, ‘If you want Cena next year, we can talk about it.’ I said no, I’m done this year. So that was my choice, and I’m glad I stuck to it. I just didn’t like the way I looked. It was a little embarrassing.”

I’m pretty sure that Angle’s program with Corbin could have naturally ended in December 2018. The McMahon family scapegoated Baron for Raw’s ratings woes, vowed major changes were coming, and then Angle pinned Corbin to permanently keep him out of any authority role on Monday nights. There was no need to continue Angle’s story with Corbin at that point, but unfortunately WWE cannot quit Corbin, and it led to a disappointing (and forgettable) retirement angle and match for Kurt at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.

That’s how Angle’s career wrapped up inside a WWE ring, and he makes it clear in this interview that he believes Brock Lesnar should also remain with WWE for the final chapter of his career. If it really will take 10 to 20 million dollars for AEW to pull Lesnar away from Vince McMahon’s grip, then Chris Jericho was probably right when he said that Lesnar isn’t really a free agent.
