Jey Uso just sold himself as a legit challenger for Roman Reigns

This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown was the last chance for WWE to sell Jey Uso as a legitimate challenger for Roman Reigns and the Universal championship. He’ll wrestle for it at Clash of Champions this Sun., Sept. 27, 2020, at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, so we kind of need to buy into him.

To my surprise, they did one hell of a job of it!

Reigns was fully condescending to Jey, explaining that, well, he’d give him the title if he could but Jey wouldn’t know what to do with it and Roman is the man the family is depending on. “It ain’t you. It won’t ever be you, because it will always be me.”

Jey had to come back big in his response, and that’s what he did:

“What if you’re wrong? Why can’t I be the one to provide for the family? Why can’t I provide for my wife, and my kids, your nephews? I been battling this my whole life. You’ve been number one. You’ve been on top. ‘There goes The Big Dog, there goes Roman Reigns, there goes Mr. Main Event, Mr. WrestleMania.’ You know what they say when they see me? ‘Which one are you?’ After Sunday, when they ask me who am I, they’re gonna know. They’re gonna say, ‘I know you, Uce, you’re the one who beat Roman Reigns at Clash of Champions for the Universal championship. And that right there will be me.”

This was a fantastic final promo to send us to the match. After, Reigns laid him out and reiterated that “you’ll take your payday and take your ass whooping that comes with it but you will never take this title and you will never take my place at the head of the table.”

Now that’s how you close a go home show before a big title match.
