RETRIBUTION reportedly sidelined for two week quarantine due to COVID exposure

T-Bar’s Twitter

RETRIBUTION didn’t appear on WWE’s Clash of Champions PPV last night (Sept. 27). While that mostly prompted jokes about how the faction whose goal is to destroy the company they work for doesn’t work on Sundays – they were also not used at SummerSlam and Payback – it looks the reason we didn’t see T-Bar, Slapjack, Reckoning, Mace & Retaliation is much more serious.

It’s also the latest setback in the group’s rocky rollout.

The first report of trouble came from Dave Meltzer on the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast. When talking about Nikki Cross, Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax being held off yesterday’s card, Meltzer also said there were members of RETRIBUTION who weren’t cleared for Clash of Champions. The reason was the same – they’d either tested positive for COVID-19 or had been in contact with someone who did.

Following up today, Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin reports it’s the latter. But his sources tell him that exposure means they’re quarantining for two weeks.

Last week’s news of an outbreak at NXT which could have spread to the main roster mentioned extras who worked as RETRIBUTION goons on the Sept. 21 Raw as possible transmission vectors. This report that Dominik Dijakovic (T-Bar), Slapjack (Shane Thorne), Mace (Dio Maddin), Reckoning (Mia Yim), and Retaliation (Mercedes Martinez) are quarantining supports that theory.

Hopefully WWE’s efforts over the past week will keep everyone healthy, and RETRIBUTION and others will return after they test negative at the end of their 14 day quarantine. But with Florida opening up and no vaccine in sight, it’s hard to imagine this is our last round of coronavirus changes to Raw, SmackDown, and NXT.
