The men’s Survivor Series teams are filled with a bunch of losers

Some places do power rankings. Here at Cageside, we do a stock report.

In this weekly series, we identify three Superstars (or groups of Superstars) who are on their way up, and three that are moving in the opposite direction. After a busy week that included Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross getting physical with each other, Murphy defeating Seth Rollins, and Daniel Bryan returning for revenge on Jey Uso, a lot of fortunes were changed.

With that in mind, let’s see whose stock has increased the most this week:

Stock Up #3: New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) and Street Profits

New Day and the Street Profits will fight each other at Survivor Series, and both teams are heading into the event on a high note. Kingston and Woods picked up two victories on television this week, including a successful tag team title defense against the Hurt Business on Raw. The Street Profits then joined forces with the New Day and won an 8-man tag team match on SmackDown.

Stock Up #2: Roman Reigns

The way Roman Reigns carries himself on the microphone these days is the stuff of legends. He sat at the head of the table for a contract signing and completely dismissed Drew McIntyre as a secondary champion who WWE only calls on when Roman Reigns is busy. The condescending tone dripping from his words makes it so easy to want to see him get Claymored at Survivor Series.

Stock Up #1: Drew McIntyre

McIntyre debuted a new entrance on Raw with a kilt and a giant sword that causes eruptions of flame. With that kind of over-the-top spectacle, it was only a matter of time until he put Randy Orton’s shoulders down for the three count and reclaimed the WWE championship. That championship victory also put Drew McIntyre into the main event of Survivor Series, where he’ll do battle with Roman Reigns.

Now let’s see whose stock has decreased the most this week:

Stock Down #3: Dana Brooke & Mandy Rose

Due to injury, Mandy Rose was removed from the women’s elimination match at Survivor Series. According to WWE logic, that means her tag team partner had to be pulled off the Survivor Series team as well, so they came up with a kayfabe explanation to replace Dana Brooke too.

Stock Down #2: Big E

One apparent reason behind the split of the New Day was for Big E to receive a singles push on SmackDown. I guess we’re going to have to wait longer for that push to develop, because Big E has not wrestled on television in over a month. He was rumored to be part of Team SmackDown at Survivor Series, but he’s currently on the outside looking in.

Big E has instead served as a supporting player in the upcoming New Day vs. Street Profits match. Oddly enough, he didn’t come out to save Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods when they were attacked by four heels last night (Nov. 20) on SmackDown. You see, the math of an 8-man tag team match would have been screwed up if Big E and the Street Profits all made the save, so Big E had to remain backstage.

Stock Down #1: Team Raw & Team SmackDown (men)

The battle for brand supremacy at Survivor Series is being marketed as “The Best of the Best,” but recent booking results for the members of the men’s Survivor Series teams make it impossible to take that slogan seriously.

Four members of Team Raw lost in an 8-man tag team match against RETRIBUTION on this week’s (Nov. 16) Raw. If they can’t even beat RETRIBUTION, then why should they be in a match on pay-per-view to determine “The Best of the Best”?

Team SmackDown is actually in worse shape. Seth Rollins and Jey Uso are both heading into the pay-per-view with consecutive defeats. Kevin Owens hasn’t bothered to appear on the last two episodes of SmackDown, and he lost his match the last time we saw him. King Corbin was on the losing side of an 8-man tag team match on SmackDown this week. Finally, Otis lost his qualifying match a few weeks ago, but for some reason was added to the team anyway.

With the exception of AJ Styles, I am looking at the landscape of this Team Raw vs. Team SmackDown match, and I see a whole bunch of losers. It takes a special type of booking incompetence to produce this result for what should be one of the main attractions of Survivor Series. Instead, WWE has turned this match into a joke.
