Yep, NXT’s women’s division still rules

USA Network

In case you were worried, the Dec. 9 episode featured a killer Raquel González/Ember Moon main event, and lots of possibilities.

Even on a night where Mrs. WarGames Candice LeRae was in a cast and Dakota Kai hinted at an injury that would keep her out of action for a long time, NXT still showed out with it’s amazing roster of women on Dec. 9.

Coming out of TakeOver on Sunday night, Raquel González had the best argument for a shot at Women’s champ Io Shirai. That’s because she pinned Io Shirai in WarGames. González strengthened that argument with a victory over Ember Moon in the main event that really delivered. It was a fantastic showcase for Raquel’s strength and Moon’s speed & agility, ended when Ember tried to push her advantage too far and paid for it.

That brought two other members of the roster. First was Toni Storm, who didn’t have the best night. She tried to argue for a shot at Shirai, but the women Toni pinned to win the second Mae Young Classic arrived to remind Storm she just doesn’t like her. With some help from Moon, Toni took a moonsault from Io.

Revenge was on the former NXT UK Women’s champ’s mind when she went to pick the bones of Raquel’s victory. But another of Ember’s WarGames teammates arrived, and this old foe’s music scared Toni right out of her boots.

There’s someone who did want a piece of the Nightmare, though, and that was the big Texan. She moved Storm out of the way to stare down the woman who beat her at Halloween Havoc, and it seemed clear González/Ripley II was in our future. But not tonight, as Raquel took the heel’s way out and left the crowd thirsty for more violence.

NXT can throw together any of those five women and deliver great matches. And this is without any sign of one of the brand’s hottest acts, Shotzi Blackheart.

Will González get the next shot at Io, or will she battle the Nightmare again first? Could Shirai give Storm a match just because she hates her? Ember returned to reclaim her mojo, and her matches have been great, but she’s not exactly stacking victories. Where does she go from here?

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to find out.
