Impact recap & reactions: Deonna Purrazzo wins Wrestler of the Year
Impact Wrestling (Dec. 22, 2020) celebrated the year that was in part 1 of the best of 2020 with awards, matches of the year, and top moments. The greatness of Deonna Purrazzo was honored in a big way.
Impact issued four awards during the show. Purrazzo took two.
- Wrestler of the Year: Deonna Purrazzo
- Knockout of the Year: Deonna Purrazzo
- X-Division Star of the Year: Ace Austin
- Tag Team of the Year: The North

Purrazzo is the first to pull the Knockouts and Wrestler sweep. Last year, Tessa Blanchard won Wrestler, while Taya won Knockouts. I can’t argue with Purrazzo making history. Several men had good years, but none were exemplary for an extended period of time.
Purrazzo will have her work cut out for her if she plans on repeating as Wrestler of the Year. The first test looks to be Taya.

First round matches include:
- Ace Austin vs Suicide
- Daivari vs Cousin Jake
- Crazzy Steve vs Tre Lamar
- KC Navarro vs Blake Christian
Ace Austin is the heavy favorite to win the tournament. I’m not very familiar with Lamar, Navarro, and Christian, but it is neat to see fresh names on the same side of the bracket. I don’t think Steve is getting to the final, so that means an up-and-comer should earn a chance at glory.
For story beats, Larry D still maintains he was set up. Acey Romero visited him in jail looking for a hint of where to investigate. Larry believes someone intentionally sprayed that magic potion to turn him into Laurence D. Crazzy Steve is the top suspect.

Josh Alexander hoped the tag team award would snap Ethan Page out of his funk. When Alexander called Page, The Karate Man answered.

That situation may be more complicated than it seems. Impact pulled out exclusive footage to reveal Page and The Karate Man as two different people.

Some jabrone took Moose up on his challenge. He is going to regret that decision.

Also, Tony Khan invited Impact wrestlers to AEW, and Kenny Omega shared a childhood tale.
Do you agree with Impact’s award winners? Does Deonna Purrazzo deserve the double honor?
