There’s been an awful lot of attempted murder in WWE this year

The coronavirus pandemic has forced WWE to adjust to the reality of having no live fans in attendance since mid-March 2020. The promotion has flexed its creative muscles to produce several cinematic matches along the way, as well as introducing fancy (or hilarious) edits and enhancements into other pre-taped bouts. We were treated to the latest such match earlier this week at TLC 2020; Randy Orton burned Bray Wyatt to a crisp during a Firefly Inferno match.

That brings me to RETRIBUTION member T-BAR, who was so touched by Randy’s act of murder that he invited the Viper to join his gang of misfits and SLAPJACKs:

T-BAR also recently threatened to end Ricochet’s existence. If I was in Ricochet’s shoes, I’d take Mr. BAR’s words very seriously. That’s because wrestlers have been getting killed at an abnormally high rate during these cinematic and pre-taped fights in WWE this year. Here are just a few examples:

• AJ Styles was buried alive in a boneyard
• John Cena was erased from existence in a Firefly Fun House
• Rey Mysterio and Aleister Black were tossed off the roof of WWE headquarters
• Braun Strowman drowned in a swamp
• Akira Tozawa was eaten by a shark in the ocean
• The Fiend was burned to death in a Firefly Inferno

This doesn’t even include other highly disturbing incidents like Rey Mysterio’s eyeball being pulled out by Seth Rollins, Elias being run over by a car, or Dolph Ziggler being booked into a WWE championship match on pay-per-view.

What I’m trying to say is that things have gotten more grotesque in WWE without any live fans in attendance, and Ricochet could be next to join this list of ill-fated wrestlers.

But another thing most of these murderous moments have in common is that WWE superstars have shown a stunning ability to come back to life, often without explanation. AJ Styles appeared on Raw within a month of being buried alive, with zero explanation. Braun Strowman may have drowned, but he returned shortly thereafter with only a change to his attitude and hair. Tozawa was immediately back on Raw chasing after the 24/7 title like he never crossed paths with a hungry shark. Bray Wyatt was sending out tweets right after he was burned to death.

So, maybe things aren’t so gloomy after all. Sure, there’s plenty of murder and death to go around in WWE this year, but most of it doesn’t seem to have any lasting impact at all.

With that said, I’m hoping that WWE at least gives us an explanation for The Fiend’s eventual return after being burned to a crisp by Orton. How (and when) do you think WWE will decide to write Wyatt back into kayfabe after being murdered at TLC 2020?
