That’s Sonya Deville walking backstage on tonight’s (Jan. 1) episode of SmackDown. She returned to WWE television for the first time since being written out of the storyline in a Loser Leaves WWE No Disqualification match against Mandy Rose at SummerSlam 2020 in August.
Leading up to that match, Deville was on track to be the WWE breakout superstar of the year. She was doing the best work of her career on the mic, stealing the show on a weekly basis. But then she was the victim of an attempted kidnapping in her personal life, and she’s been away from WWE television in the aftermath of that frightening incident.
It’s great to see Sonya back; her return is a terrific way to kick off the new year.
Royal Rumble 2021 is coming up on Jan. 31. Is Sonya Deville now one of the favorites to outlast 29 other women on that night?
