The card is set for night two of NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 15

The nature of a two-night Wrestle Kingdom is that inevitably a bunch of the matches on night two are going to be determined by matches on night one (for full results, check here), and now we know the full card for tomorrow (Jan. 5) morning’s show.

The biggest question heading into the evening was who would “Switchblade” Jay White be challenging for the IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental Championships, and our main event brought us the answer. Slow and steady in the early goings, Naito trying to keep the pace slow and grind Ibushi down until a trip to the floor saw him switch to straight up going for his neck.

Big bombs, epic violence, consecutive nearfalls off both Destino and Kamigoye, but in the end Ibushi blocked a third Destino and kneed Naito in the face until he won both titles and the right to move on and be challenged tomorrow by the man that beat him for the G1 Climax winner’s briefcase and a chance to, as he has defined his quest from the beginning, become God.

The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship scene saw a deciding match as well, although the question was one of challenger rather than champion as Super J-Cup winner El Phantasmo battled against Best of the Super Jr. winner Hiromu Takahashi to determine who would get to face Taiji Ishimori.

It was, as is time-honored tradition for Hiromu, absolutely balls-out wild from the start but with an intelligent core as two men that have dueled time and again and knew how to counter each other two or three levels deep, building to a climax of tight escapes with little margin for error until the back-and-forth favored Takahashi and he won with a short spike Hurricanrana.

Last, but certainly not least, the show opened up with the return of the New Japan Rambo, this time to decide the four men that will be competing to be the first provisional KOPW 2021 Champion. Chase Owens started the match and persevered all the way through, BUSHI took advantage of the through-the-ropes rule and did a lot of hanging out at ringside beating up Young Lions, Bad Luck Fale earned his spot through sheer giant-sized dominating force, and Toru Yano?

Yano did like he always does, and snuck it out, entering last and not even bothering to get in the ring while the other three did his dirty work for him. They don’t call him the Sublime Master Thief for nothin’, friends!
