Raw ratings, viewership tick upwards on holiday

Ratings were delayed due to Monday being Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but the Jan. 18, 2021 numbers are in. The trends for Raw continues to be positive, but – as always – there are many factors to consider, which leaves plenty of room to debate what the increases from the week before mean in the grand scheme of things.

With an average viewership of 1.85 million, Raw was up 2% from Jan. 11’s episode. That’s a sign people who tuned in to see Drew McIntyre address his positive COVID test and Triple H’s return to the ring were interested enough to come back this week. There was no football competition, so USA was probably hoping for a bigger bump. But the NBA did have games all day, which could have drawn eyeballs away from WWE.

Ratings in the 18 – 49 year old demographic averaged a .60, up 9% from last week and third among cable originals on the night behind the two basketball games it overlapped with.

The hourly audience dropped as usual, but the drops weren’t terribly steep:

Hour one: 1.99 million
Hour two: 1.88 million
Hour three: 1.7 million

With Royal Rumble hype and fallout coming, WWE and USA will be looking for a steeper climb the next two weeks. They’re promising Goldberg on the go home show, too… but of course they promoted him during this Monday’s edition then delivered Gillberg.

Place your bets – on what the ratings will be, and if Bill will actually be in the ThunderDome on Jan. 25.
