NXT Discussion Post: 01.20.21
Tonight’s a big night for tag team wrestling as the first-ever women’s Dusty Rhodes Classic tournament kicks off with its first match. Advertised for the night is Team Ninja (Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter) taking on Mercedes Martinez & Toni Storm.
In this first-round match, it seems as though the likely winners may end up being Martinez and Storm. However, keep in mind that these are two women who have recently called out the NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai saying that they are coming for her title.
Another woman announced that she has Shirai in her sights as well. She is also part of the tournament and that woman is Raquel Gonzalez. Gonzalez did pin the champ at WarGames to win the match for her team last month.
The full women’s bracket for the Dusty Rhodes Classic was announced earlier today. In these brackets are three exciting signees from the indies with new names given. These three women are Cora Jade (FKA-Elayna Black), Gigi Dolin (FKA-Priscilla Kelly), and Zoey Stark (FKA -Lacey Ryan). For the tournament, Dolin & Jade will team up to face Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell while Stark teams with Marina Shafir. Stark and Shafir will face Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon.
Bayley has also made her way to the Captial Wrestling Center. She posted a photo of herself right by the trophy for the winners of the tag team tournament. She previously asked Triple H to put her in the tournament. With the teams already announced, will this amount to anything? Beth Phoenix responded to Bayley’s photo.
