Royal Rumble go home doesn’t do much for SmackDown’s ratings

Personally, I blame the lack of Billie Kay.

Whatever the actual reason, WWE’s final push to Royal Rumble on Fri., Jan. 29 didn’t have much of an impact on SmackDown’s numbers. The show’s streak of increasing average viewership was snapped after three weeks by a second hour drop. Ratings were unchanged in the key demographics, but that was good enough to won the night for FOX in both the 18 – 34 and 18 – 49 age groups.

And here’s our running tracker of overnight numbers for the current season. You can also access the tab of year one numbers here (all data still via Showbuzz Daily).

Probably a sign that 2 – 2.25 million viewers and a .6 with the under 50 set is the show’s baseline.

We’ll see if Royal Rumble fallout, and hopefully the return of Billie Kay, can deliver a surge next Friday.
