Reigns beats Owens in brutal Last Man Standing match

@WWE

After losing both a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match and a Steel Cage match, it seemed Kevin Owens had used up all his chances at the Universal championship. Thankfully for him, Adam Pearce got on Roman Reigns’ bad side and found himself having to duck a match against the champ at tonight’s (Sun., Jan. 31, 2021) WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) at the ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

He managed to pull that off by agreeing to a Last Man Standing match, then citing an injury requiring a replacement be found. Owens got to be that replacement.

In a fun bit of trivia, Reigns challenged Owens for the Universal title at Royal Rumble in 2017 in a No DQ match that saw Owens retain.

This time, it was Roman’s turn to retain.

They had one hell of a physical match first, with Owens taking some crazy bumps. That included getting thrown off a platform through a table below:

And Reigns running him over with a golf cart:

Later, Owens jumped off a pallet high up in the air on a forklift, putting Reigns through a table below. Later still, Reigns speared Owens through the stage set up.

There was a hell of a false finish near the end, with Owens handcuffing Reigns in such a way that he couldn’t stand up. The referee got up to 9 and Roman, seeing no other way out, threw him into a bar to stop the count. A new referee showed up after a bit, Paul Heyman took the cuffs off, and Reigns put Owens to sleep with a guillotine choke.
